KXIPvCSK: MS Dhoni could not match the best finish, CSK’s first defeat in the match
Kings XI Punjab defeated Chennai Super Kings by 4 runs in the match which gave breath-taking, thanks to the batting of Chris Gayle (63) and the strong performance of the bowlers. This is the second win of Kings XI Punjab, while Chennai’s IPL first defeats in 2018.
In the 12th match of the tournament played at the PCA Stadium in Mohali, Kings XI Punjab batted first and scored 7 for 197 in the 20th over. In response, the CSK team could score 193 runs in 20 overs losing 5 wickets. Kings XI Punjab opener Chris Gayle, who scored 63 runs in 33 balls with seven fours and four sixes, was named the man of the match.
For CSK, MS Dhoni scored an unbeaten 79 runs in 44 balls with 6 fours and five sixes, but he could not win the team. It also scored the best score of MS Dhoni’s IPL career. CSK needed 17 runs in the last over, but Dhoni made only 12 runs in Mohit Sharma‘s over, and CSK lost the match by four runs.
Chennai started its pursuit of huge goals, it was a bad start. Shane Watson (11) gave Mohit Sharma an easy catch to Barinder Sran in short fine leg on the ball. Soon Andrew Tye caught Murali Vijay (12) in the hands of Saran, the double blow to Chennai.
Punjab captain Ravichandran Ashwin raised Samba’s batting by Sam Billings (9) to lbw out. After this, Ambati Rayudu (49) shared a 57-run partnership with captain Dhoni to return to the Chennai Super Kings match. Both of them took care of the innings so that Ashwin got Rayudu back in the run-up to make Punjab come back.
From here, Dhoni made a 50-run partnership with Jadeja (19) and made the match exciting. In the meanwhile, Dhoni imposed many attractive shots and kept the problems of the Punjab bowlers increasing. However, Andrew Tye broke this partnership by catching Jadeja out of Ashwin in the covers. Dhoni again scored 19 runs in this over.
Chennai needed 17 runs in the last over to win again. Mohit Sharma spent 12 runs in this over and gave Punjab a second win. Andrew Tie got two wickets from Punjab while Ravichandran Ashwin and Mohit Sharma got one wicket each.
